Veteran hiring-path chips on federal jobs¶

What chips are for¶
When a USAJOBS announcement lists who may apply (veterans, military spouses, National Guard, certain special authorities), WorkWingman can show that as a factual chip on the posting.
Chips are metadata about the announcement. They are never:
- a score
- a sort key
- a WorkWingman “you are eligible” verdict
- “+10 preference points” marketing
Eligibility always comes from the agency process and the announcement itself.
Where chips come from¶
- Primary: structured HiringPath codes (for example veteran, military spouse, National Guard).
- Secondary when present: special hiring and VEOA-related structured codes.
- Military status / preference points belong on your profile and apply checklist, not as posting chips.
If free text says “VEOA” or “30% disabled” without the structured codes, v1 does not invent the special chip.
Product rules¶
- Optional profile flags may highlight relevant chips; they must not silently filter your whole job list.
- A later “only show veteran-path jobs” control, if any, must be an explicit user toggle with clear “this hides other jobs” copy.
- Telemetry may count chips shown — not “eligibility conversion” vanity metrics.
