WorkWingman — Study Videos & Podcasts (Plain Language)

Study & prep now also finds you real YouTube videos to watch and real podcasts to listen to, matched to the job you're prepping for (or all your saved jobs at once). Same house rules as everywhere else in this app: nothing is invented, nothing happens in your accounts without you saying yes first, and you always use your own logins — never the app's.

Study videos — real YouTube search results

WorkWingman searches YouTube (using Google's official search tool) for videos that match the skills and keywords from the job description — things like "RAG tutorial" or "Kafka interview prep." Every video you see — its title, the channel, the thumbnail — comes straight from YouTube's own search results. WorkWingman never makes up a video that doesn't exist.

A quota-friendly heads-up: YouTube limits how many searches an app can do per day for free (roughly 100 searches). So once WorkWingman searches for a job, it remembers the results instead of asking YouTube again every time you revisit the page. That's why you might see the exact same videos if you check back a few minutes later — it's saving the daily search budget, not stuck.

If nothing shows up, one of two things is true: either the job's keywords didn't match anything useful, or YouTube search isn't turned on yet for this install (it needs a small setup step from whoever's running the app). Either way, you'll see an honest "no videos yet" message, never a fake result.

What it searches for, under the hood: when a job has detailed AI-matched keywords, those drive the search. Most saved jobs today don't have that yet, though — so WorkWingman falls back to the meaningful words in the job title itself ("Kubernetes," "Machine Learning," and so on, skipping generic words like "Senior" or "Engineer"). Either way, you still get something relevant to search with, instead of an empty search that never runs.

Creating a YouTube playlist — always your account, always your permission

Once you've picked a few videos you like, you can turn them into a real playlist. Here's exactly what happens and when:

  1. You check the boxes next to the videos you want.
  2. You click "Create a YouTube playlist."
  3. A box pops up that spells out, in plain words: this will create a real, private playlist in your own YouTube account. Nothing has happened yet at this point — it's just asking.
  4. Only when you click "Confirm & create in my YouTube" does WorkWingman actually talk to YouTube — using your own Google sign-in, the same connection you set up on the Connections screen. The playlist is created under your name, in your account, exactly like you'd made it yourself by hand.

If you haven't connected your Google account yet, step 4 will just tell you so ("connect Google and grant YouTube access first") instead of silently failing or pretending it worked.

Why the extra confirm step exists: creating something in your account is a bigger deal than just showing you a search result, so WorkWingman treats it the same careful way it treats installing software or filling out a job application — it asks first, and it double-checks on the backend that the request really came from the WorkWingman app itself (not some other website trying to sneak a request in).

Suggested podcasts — a curated list plus real search matches

Alongside the videos, you'll see podcast suggestions in two flavors:

  • Hand-picked shows (marked "PICK") — a short list of genuinely good, well-known tech/career/interview/leadership podcasts that's always there, whether or not a job is selected: Software Engineering Daily, The Changelog, Talk Python To Me, Manager Tools, and a few more.
  • Matched to this job (marked "MATCH") — real results from Apple's free podcast search, looked up using the same keywords from the job description. Same rule as the videos: only real search results, never invented.

Subscribing is always on you. Every podcast links out to its normal subscribe/listen page. WorkWingman never subscribes you to anything or creates an account anywhere on your behalf — you open the link and add it to whatever podcast app you already use.

"This job" vs. "all my saved jobs"

If you've saved more than one job, you'll see an "All my saved jobs" option next to the usual per-company tabs. Switching to it broadens both panels — videos and podcasts — to cover keywords from every job you're tracking, not just the one you're currently looking at. Handy for a Sunday-afternoon "catch me up on everything" study session.
