What's the plan for WorkWingman? (plain version)¶
This is the everyday-language version. The detailed one is in ../business/executive-summary.md.
What WorkWingman is¶
Applying for jobs is exhausting. Every company makes you fill out the same forms over and over, and a lot of "helper" apps just blast your info everywhere and quietly sell your personal data.
WorkWingman is a free helper that lives on your own computer. It fills out job applications for you, polishes your resume, and keeps track of everything — but you stay in charge. It never sends an application without your OK, and your information never leaves your machine unless you choose to turn on backup.
Think of it like a really smart, private assistant for your job hunt.
WorkWingman is a Black-owned business, built by a developer who has been on the frustrating side of hiring himself. That's where the "you stay in charge" attitude comes from. (It also makes us eligible for supplier-diversity partnership programs — a doors-opener for the business side, separate from the product story.)
How does it make money if it's free?¶
The core app is free forever for job seekers. We make money three honest ways:
- Convenience extras. If you want your stuff backed up and synced across your laptop and desktop, or you'd rather not fiddle with technical settings, you can pay a small monthly fee (around $19–29/month). Totally optional.
- Helping the helpers. Career coaches, coding bootcamps, and college career centers pay to use WorkWingman with the people they help. This is the biggest and steadiest part of the plan.
- Later, and only with your permission: a way to prove your work history and degrees are real (so you don't repeat background checks), and eventually deals with big job platforms.
We never sell your data. Ever. That's the whole point.
Why in that order?¶
- We start free to earn trust. Trust is everything here.
- We add paid extras that don't compromise privacy.
- We sell to coaches and schools before recruiters, because coaches want you to succeed — recruiters just want to fill a slot.
- We save the big-company partnerships for last, once lots of people already love the app.
The big dream¶
Just like the "Common App" lets students apply to many colleges with one form, WorkWingman wants to become one trusted profile that works for any job, anywhere — owned by you, private by default, and always on your side.
The honest hard part¶
Here's the tricky thing: people stop using a job-search app the moment they get hired. That's why selling to coaches and schools matters so much (they stick around), and why we want WorkWingman to help with your whole career — raises, reviews, your next move — not just the job hunt.
