Bring your own key — in plain language

Some features work better with data from outside services — stock prices for company research, course platforms for study recommendations, and so on. WorkWingman doesn't buy or manage any of these on your behalf. Instead there's one screen, Integrations & API keys, where you can optionally connect your own accounts and keys.

The most important thing to know. WorkWingman never creates an account for you, never signs up on your behalf, never reads your email to verify a signup, and never solves a CAPTCHA. For every single row on this screen, all the app does is open the provider's own website in your browser so you can sign up or log in yourself. Then it either takes a key you paste back in, or just notes down that you told it you're linked. That's it — the app is never the one clicking "Create Account."

Two kinds of rows

  • Paste a key. A few services (like stock-data providers) give you a personal API key after you sign up on their site. You copy that key and paste it into WorkWingman. The app only ever shows you the last 4 characters of a saved key afterward — never the whole thing.
  • Just log in. Learning platforms (Udemy, LeetCode, and similar) don't have a "key" to copy — you just have an account there. For these, WorkWingman opens the site so you can log in or sign up, and then you tell the app "yes, I've got an account" by clicking a button. Nothing is stored except that yes/no.

Every row on this screen is optional. If you skip all of them, WorkWingman still works — you'll just miss out on the extra data or convenience each one adds.

Where keys are kept

Exactly the same place as every other password WorkWingman handles: your own KeePass vault, a locked file on your machine. A pasted key is never written to a plain settings file, never printed to a log, and never sent anywhere except into that vault. The screen only ever shows you a masked version like configured (••••1234) once a key is saved.

If you're interested in stock or company-financials features, FMP is the recommended one to set up first — it has a solid free tier (250 requests a day) and no credit card required. You'll see it pinned at the top of the screen with a "Recommended" tag.

Some of these are listed ahead of the feature that will use them — the screen is built to be ready the moment that feature ships, so you won't need to wait for an update to see the row appear.

These match the study recommendations WorkWingman already shows you — linking an account here just tells the app "yes, I can enroll/read there," so it can point you to content you can actually use.

Removing a key or unlinking an account

Every row has a Remove (or Unlink) button. That deletes the entry from your vault immediately — nothing lingers.
